With the 2017 F4 US Championship season quickly approaching Momentum Motorsports has solidified their driver line up, re-signing race winner and Top 5 Championship finisher Skylar Robinson. Robinson 20, an Augusta GA native, competed under the Momentum banner in 2016 joining during the second F4 US event. “The conclusion of the 2016 championship was a bit bitter sweet for us, we saw the positives of finishing in the top 5 in championship points, but kept thinking about what could have been had we competed in every round. We’re looking forward to even more success in 2017” said team owner Phil Picard Sr .
The 2017 season promises much stiffer competition then what was seen in 2016, with the addition of new teams and field sizes expected to exceed 30 cars. The Momentum team has been hard at work during the off season, furthering the development of their Honda powered Crawford F4 chassis. With Momentum finding the podium 5 times in 2016 the team has the bar set high for 2017, expecting to win the overall championship. When asked about 2016, team manager Phil Picard Jr is quoted as saying, “We learned a great deal last year, every round we made the car better and better with some of our biggest engineering strides of coming at the season finale at Homestead.” The team carried the 2016 momentum into off season testing, finding more speed each time out.
Robinson, who will be returning in the #2 Momentum Motorsports entry, will have multiple roles within the team in 2017. Not only will he be the senior driver on the team, he will also act as series new comer and teammate Kent Vaccaro’s driver coach. The two have been working together closely during the offseason in efforts to sharpen skills, improve race craft, while continuing to develop the car. “ I’m hyped to be back with Momentum this year,” said Robinson. “Kent’s super easy to get along with which is always a nice quality to have in a teammate. He listens well and I’ll be relaying my experiences from what I learned last year. We are all putting in the hours to make this a successful season and develop as a unit. It’s going to be tough field but we will be ready.”
Both Robinson and Vaccaro will be on track this weekend, at NOLA Motorsports Park for the first official 2017 test. With the inherent talent and proven team expertise already in place, an excellent opportunity is still available for a qualified driver to fill the third and final Momentum Motorsports entry. The team is currently interviewing parties interested in competing with a proven championship contender.
