Jonathan Teixeira successfully completed the F2000 Championship Series season opener at Road Atlanta. The 17 year old Brazilian was faced with his first drive since August in both a new chassis and a track he hadn’t yet encountered. “At first, I was having trouble adjusting to the major temperature difference between the Northeast and South, which led to some struggles that unfortunately took away precious track time. After getting through that, getting in the Van Diemen felt great”
Friday, saw the Massachusetts native displaying great car control in very wet conditions as he continued to learn the famous venue. Saturday’s focus was on consistency and chipping away at lap times. “He got better every session” said team principal Phil Picard Sr. Teixeria’s improvement continued throughout Race One on Saturday gaining 5 positions by the end of the race. On Sunday the positive trend continued. Teixeira’s best lap times of the weekend, came on his last five laps. “I definitely enjoyed being back in the car after 8 months and having an eventful weekend… After an awesome weekend under the Momentum Motorsports tent, I am very excited to see how the rest of the season will play out. My goal is to be in the top 10 pushing for a top 5 finish by the end of the season”
Teixeira’s marked improvement is exactly what the team was expecting to see. “We knew he had talent after the way he handled the RFR last year in his two outings. We are excited to see how he will do in a competitive car as he accrues more track time” the team said. Teixeira’s next race will be at V.I.R June 5th-7th with the F2000 Championship Series, as an age restriction will keep him sidelined for Watkins Glen.
